Grief has engulfed Kiplongon Village in Mumberes, Eldama Ravine Sub-County after a middle-aged man climbed an electric pole and jumped in an attempt to commit suicide Wednesday evening.
Confirming the incident Mumberes Assistant Chief Nicolas Rotich said the man climbed an electric pole jumped off and died on the spot.
“The man climbed the pole and jumped off even after his family members pleaded with him not to jump off it is unfortune that we were unable to convince not jump off.” Said Rotich.
Rotich said that they have not established what might have led the man to committing suicide.
“He did not tell us what made him to commit suicide while we were convincing him not to jump off, he claimed that he was okay. While on top of the electric pole he was sing a song called party after party which we did not understand what he meant or what it meant.” Added the chief.
According to Edwin Kiptoo, a resident in the area, the man seemed drunk moments before committing suicide.
“We saw him coming from a place known as SGR where illicit brew is sold and later climbed the electric pole and threw himself.” Said Kiptoo.
His body has been moved to Eldama Ravine Sub County Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
This comes barely a day after a prison warden attached to Eldama Ravine GK prisons committed suicide in house and it is suspected that mental illness might have been the cause.
