Community Urged to Support to People Living with Disabilities

Baringo County residents have been called on to love and support People Living with Disabilities PWDs in the community.

Speaking in Muchukwo in Barwessa Ward, Baringo North while donating more than 16 wheelchairs, Sanitary towels to young girls, foodstuffs, walking sticks and clothes to PWDs, a renown athlete Kirui Kirui said that he is committed to helping people living with disabilities in the community through his initiative, Kirui Initiative.

He said that he partnered with PWDs ambassador Rani Ramchandani who is also passionate about helping PWDs in raising the donations.

“I talked with Rani and she agreed to help us so I decided to bring her here to interact with you tell her the challenges you are going through because she is very passionate about helping PWDs.” He said.

Kirui said that his initiative is about giving back to the society and through the initiative he has been able to help women since they are the ones left with children living with disabilities and they have to carry them around.

PWDs ambassador Rani Ramchandani said that she has supported PWDs from more than 35 Counties and has issued 730 wheelchairs.

She called on parents with children living with disabilities to be proud of their children and not to hide them saying that they are just like other kids.

“I want to urge parents and guardians here please don’t hide them, people like me are really ready to support them, we have wheelchairs for the elderly and for children and we are going give them and there are more to come.” She urged.

She also asked them to register their children so as to be able to benefit from government programs.

“We are in collaboration with County department that is dealing with PWDS so please register them so that they can benefit from government programs and for us to access them with ease.” She added.

Barwesa Member of County Assembly Richard Barwecho Joined Kirui and Rani in urging parents and guardians of children living with disabilities to register them so as to benefit from government programs such Inua Jamii.

“We are grateful for what Kirui and his team are doing to our people, I would like to urge you to register PWDS in order for them to benefit from government programs since they have been allocated funds.” He said.
