Chief Administrative Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning Alex Muthengi has urged the government through the ministry of lands to fast track the process of settling in Mochongoi,Baringo County.
Speaking in Kabarnet while presiding over the launch of Land Registration Digitization Equipment and Operationalization of Baringo County’s Geographic Information system (GIS) Lab, the CAS said that it is important for the government to settle them arguing that they have been living there for years and the do not have elsewhere to go.
“I know exactly what is on the ground no one can tell me I don’t know Mochongoi because I have been there and it is necessary to address the issue because those people are suffering and should be settled.”
He asked the County government of Baringo to fast track the registration and verification of the Nubian communities living in Baringo County so that they can be issued with title deeds.
“Kindly once that is done let’s see how we can do it so that we are able to finish that exercise and give them the titles deeds.” Added the CAS.
He applauded the department of Ministry of Lands in Baringo County on utilizing its funds and added that the ministry is going to allocate them more funds because he is confident that they are going to be utilized well.
“We shall deliberately and affirmatively support you as much as we can as a ministry because we have gone to other areas and we have found misappropriation of funds.” Said Muthengi.
He said that the ministry is not going to put more resources where they are not well managed and the ministry is going to add more staff to Baringo County to easy the registration process.
He urged the County to register community lands so that they can be planned well and used in developing the County.
“I am going to advice my CS on the need to address the urgently so that we can be able to know very well what we have in Kenya and what communities are affected because that is the only way we can afford to move forward.” Noted Muthengi.
He asked them to be cautious in registering and planning community lands saying that land is a complex issue and can even cause insecurity.
“We know very well that land is a complex issue, land boarders even issues to do with security if they are not managed properly.” Insisted the CAS.
